At the Dannar Base, we’re prompted to Mist, who wakes up after falling from starvation. He fakes an amnesia until he sorts things out, and quickly becomes Dannar Base’s chore-boy.
Queue prologue and 2 months later, he’s still doing his best there. He’s assigned to bring a necklace for Go and Anna’s secret wedding, but things get ugly when Dannar Base detects Mimetic Beasts approaching.
We start out the map with Boss taking a hit from the Mimetic Beast and be instantly taken out. Now it’s up to Koji Tetsuya and Shizuru to go head-on with the beast.
Mission
Win: Enemy annihilation
Lose: Any ally unit destroyed
Turn 1
There’s nothing much special one can do at this situation. Attack, counter.
Turn 2
We cut back to the wedding, where Shizuru contacts Go right before the important speech. Go leaves with Koji Kabuto and company, leaving Mist and Anna behind. But Anna is determined and goes after them.
Attack, counter once more. G Gunner is tough!
Turn 3
Event queues, and G Gunner shoots, but the blast hits the hills where Anna is, and she falls to a cave. She ends up finding something interesting down there. The Mimetic Beast destroyes G Gunner, revealing Shizuru in the Core Gunner. Go arrives to find Shizuru wounded and Koji Tetsuya dead (…NOT!). But Go isn’t ready for the battle, being 5 years absent from a battlefield. Anna arrives in the Neo Okuser.
Advance towards the Mimetic Beast, attacking. There’s no support attacking or defending for single units, so better be watchful, specially with Neo Okuser’s HP.
Turn 4
More Mimetic Beasts appear. Time to give up? Not yet, as Mazinger Z and Diana A arrive just in time to even things out. And with a kickass theme song at that.
Gather the team up and patch wounded units with Diana A. Attack and counter as usual, watching for each unit’s HP. The enemies usually focus on the strongest unit (or is it the one with most HP in reach?). Rinse and repeat until the next event.
Turn 6
More Mimetic Beasts appear, and Dr. Kiriko tells Go and Anna to join. But Go refuses to put here wife’s life in danger. Meanwhile, Mist is concerned that they won’t make it. He promised himself he wouldn’t fight anymore, but it’s inevitable. He reaches his robot and initiates the Crystal Heart.
Levrius appears at the battlefield, surprising everyone. Mist soon shows off his temporary combo skills, defeating 3 beasts at once. But now we can only use an attack combo depending on Mist’s skills, gameplay wise.
Things get easier now with Levrius on battlefield. Since he’s one of my favorited series, I’ll make the best use of him: use Sayaka’s Bless on Mist to take out the “main” Mimetic Beast (the one fused with Club Mariner). Earns about 14000 money. The beast also gives away a few parts by default: Servo Motor, Propellent Tank, Infight +1 and Gunfight +1.
The rest of the batch is easy. Just watch out for unlucky shots on units with low HP.
Mission Complete
Once the mess is cleaned, the Mimetic Beast reappears and attacks Levrius. This time Go and Anna joins to form the Godannar Twin Drive and take out the enemy. At the hills, Daiya was watching the fight, hopeful that it was his destiny arriving.
Back at the Dannar Base, everyone is surprised that the amnesic guy is the pilot of Levrius. He draws the crew’s attention to Go and Anna’s secret wedding, and is called by Kiriko for a chat. At the medical office, Shibakusa (or Pops) arrive to deliver the news that G Gunner and Core Gunner will become single units from now on.
At the commander room, Mist insists on having amnesia, but accepts to work for the base as a pilot as well. Kiriko goes to the medical office, where Kagemaru shows ones who were rescued from Club Mariner’s cockpit: Max and Mira, Go’s teammates from 5 years ago. She wants this situation kept secret to Go, but mainly for Anna’s sake.
Intermission
Easy stage and many entries join on a single chapter. Mazinger Z’s new animations are hot, Godannar units move around smoothly (there’s even subtle bounces for Neo Okuser O_o) and Levrius feels like a nice original unit. Although, compared to SRWW, I felt underwhelmed. But maybe I’m biased towards the amount of dynamic kills we got on a first stage back there.
Now it’s possible to gather units using the Partner System, but I’ll go into it later.
My top aces:
- Koji Kabuto: 18
- Mist: 14
- Go: 13
