This week’s Famitsu reveals the mystery behind Generation Break for SD Gundam G Generation World. Those who played Wars are already familiar with the pattern:

  • Each stage has a Break Trigger, a special condition different from the winning/losing conditions, and a Challenge Mission
  • Example given is a stage from MS IGLOO: Drowning space
  • Step 1 is to protect the HLV, by completing this condition, Archangel appears being pursued by ZAFT. Challenge Mission is to protect all HLVs
  • Step 2 is to defeat Athrun with a Master Unit. Challenge Mission is to defeat Athrun with Kira
  • Step 3, Gato and Kou appear in their respective final MS
  • If all Challenge Missions are completed, then Zabine also appears at Step 3

Scans also show Regnant, EZ-8, 0 Raiser, Angelo Custom Geara Zulu, ReZel, Commander Type Rezel, Mandala Gundam and Granzam, as well as a confrontation between Marida and PuruTwo.

G Generation Touch for the iPhone was released at the Japanese App Store recently, with the 1st stage available for free while the remaining stuff is offered as an in-app purchase (at a price of 1000 yen).

As a Gundam addict myself, I rushed to the store (and even created an account for it) to download and play it. However, my first time with it wasn’t too pleasant and the reviews from others users at the store indicate I’m not alone on this opinion.

Playing this game on an iPhone 4 is lackluster at best, as one can easily note the jagged sprites from character portraits, the blurred map tiles and the pixelated combat background. The unit sprites are fine, though they lack fluid animation that the DS games presented. Although it is supposedly a port from another mobile game, they could’ve done a better job at it.

Gameplay wise, the free version is the basic strategy G Generation game, reminding me of the 1st game of the series, with the most recent stuff like Chance Step. Even though the controls are touch based, DS’s Cross Drive is a better game to implement them. One has to click too many times just to move the unit and attack, while in Cross Drive it was possible just to use drag and drop.

Gundam VS Zaku 2Another complaint is the size of maps and icons. They’re too tiny, and it’s almost impossible to touch them without retrying. Maps aren’t free to zoom-in and out with a pinch, as only 2 levels exist.

The dreaded Haro Points is also back, although I can’t judge how much it affects unlocking stuff. On a few playthroughs of the 1st stage, I’ve gained a few items, which are unusable at the free version.

All in all, even though it’s a free version, it’s still supposed to convince us that the remaining of the game is worth the price, which it fails horribly. I’m in doubt that even the annoucement of Unicorn Gundam as a downloadable content can save this.

I’ll try to get my hands on a Japanese Gift Card to try out the full content and update this post with more info. Stay with the in-game screenshots for now.

After the arrival of SRWL comes a new G Generation game revealed by Famitsu: G Generation World for the PSP and Wii. Update: info from HQ scans.

The information we have so far is that it’ll include Gundam Unicorn, Gundam 00 2nd Season, as well as guest appearance of 00-Qan(t), and 0081 series from the PS3′s game.

In the gameplay aspect, it’ll retain the past games’ aspects such as character upgrading and unit development, but replace the Wars Break with Generation Break, which will probably be the same thing. Storywise, World will present a unified world full of crossover madness, instead of the separated storylines for each series.

Famitsu surprised this week by publishing an article about series that will probably never be part of a SRW game. Scans include series such as (update: complete list with HQ scans):

  • Tetsujin 28 Hakuchu no Zangetsu
  • Ambassador Magma OVA
  • Red Baron Anime
  • Sakura Taisen 1 & 2
  • Granzort
  • Dagwon
  • Armored Core Nexus
  • Front Mission 1st
  • Lost Planet
  • Abarangers
  • Power Rangers
  • White Knight Chronicles
  • Dai-Guard
  • Transformers the Movie 1 & 2
  • Orin no Kishi – Kishi Gensou

My personal favorite Rayearth apparently not being on this list gives me some hope ^_^

Also, if those are really pages from an actual Famitsu magazine, I’m really impressed by the effort they had to create the SD art and an original series. SRW U-mpossible, indeed.

This week’s Famitsu reveals the first 4 stages of SRWL. So far only small scans were found with some info. Update: additional info from a 2ch thread.

1 – The boys guided by the Iron

Koichi goes out to buy bread in place of Shinji, who isn’t doing well at school. However, he’s smashed by a falling mobile weapon. Meanwhile, Ichitaka reaches professor Graife’s house. However, after he sees 2 robots there, professor is kidnapped by a mysterious person. Ichitaka deploys in the Rushbird to save him.

This is the stage presented previously at TGS, featuring Rushbird and Dancouga Nova, against the Kato Organization (which includes Wu-fei). Linebarrels becomes neutral and Painkiller and Hind-kind also make an appearance.

2 – Special Training, Mach Drill!

To gain some help on finding professor Graife, Ichitaka joins the Nation Alliance’s special forces Lotus. And Lotus is now contacting the several Super Robots that exist to gain their support. Meanwhile, during a special training at Build Base, Kenji is attacked by Isama of the Great Empire Jama.

Stage 2′s page is cut, so I can’t make out much, aside from the appearances of Jeeg, Mazinger Z, Aphrodite A and Boss Borot.

3 – Woman who fights, woman who doesn’t fight, woman who can’t fight

The Dannar Base members agree to join Lotus. However, one of the main pilots Go can’t use his unit, and his partner Anna ran away. During her escape, Anna is captured alongside her friend Nagisa by alien invaders called Cthuluf. At such moment, a woman named Iczer-1 appears.

Such a long title to present the debut of Iczer-1 and Nagisa’s pairing, as well as Com-Battler V, Godannar and Neo-Okuser.

4 – The Flame Giant appears

At Earth’s inner world Darius, the Daiku Maryu and Darius forces are at combat. However, Daiya is thrown at the outside world alongside Gaiking. He’s able to request help from Lotus, but Darius attacks. Will Lotus make it on time?

The stage seems to feature white/fake Gaiking: Kaikink, as well as Dancouga Nova unleashing Dancouken.

It’s also rumored that, in exchange for the Partner System’s unit bonuses, there are no Enhance Parts in this game at all. Let’s wait for confirmation.

This week’s Famitsu (Ichigogumi) scans show the rival characters for SRWL:

Straybird: a Super Robot created by doctor Graife, it has a giant wing that captures energy from another dimension and turns into power, making its operating time practically endless. Since it has low firepower, it exceeds on mobility and acceleration. It also uses the dimensional energy for its optical stealth device Imaginary Road to defeat its enemies. Weapons: Crow Machinegun and Pheasant Cutter

Yunagi(?) Graife: Graife’s grandson, an 18 year old. He’s considered by Ichitaka as his older brother, but is careless, inarticulate and unsociable. He learned about machinary through self-discipline, and helps his grandfather on the biggest inventions. Through the strange combination with Haruno as his sub-pilot, they can push Straybird’s performance to its limits.

HL-O Haruno: an android created by doctor Graife, she’s programmed to be a maid, but it had combat data input into herself and was reborn as Straybird’s sub-pilot. After a certain event, she wanders around the world alongside Yunagi and the Straybird.
